About Sheriff James Stuart
Sheriff James Stuart is the 17th Sheriff of Anoka County, since the office was established in 1857. James has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 28 years and they have 3 children. They reside in Andover, and are very active as a family in their church and in the community. He has demonstrated a commitment to providing the best possible services to the citizens that he proudly serves and actively participates in numerous collaborative and outreach efforts.
Sheriff Stuart is active with the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association as an Executive Board Member and represents law enforcement on the MSA Legislative and Training Committees. He is also active on the national level with the National Sheriff’s Association as a Member of the Board of Directors, a member of the Domestic Violence and Crime Services Committee, Youth Programs and Juvenile Justice Committee and Global Policing Affairs Committee ; he is a Member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, the Minnesota Domestic Violence Committee, the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition; the Executive Committee for the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, a Board member for the Equal Justice Committee; a Board Member for Hope 4 Youth,
Member of the Association of MN Counties FUTURES Task Force, an Advisory board member for Rasmussen Criminal Justice Studies Program, the Secretary/Treasurer for the Joint Law Enforcement Council; Chair of the JLEC Central Communications Committee, and Past Board Member for the Governor’s Forensic Lab Advisory Board and Past President of the Anoka County Chiefs of Police Association.
James is a Marine, and a graduate of St. Mary’s University and the 102nd session of the National Sheriff’s Institute and studied Public Safety Leadership at the University of MN, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. He is committed to the development of our youth, community partnerships and service that exceeds expectations. He was nominated for “National Sheriff of the Year” and was awarded the Medal of Merit by the National Sheriff’s Association in 2015 and2016 for his contributions to the community and to the field of criminal justice.

** CANCELLATION POLICY – The National Command & Staff College does not provide any refund for cancellations. This is due to the fact that tuition for the course is set so low to ensure the program seats are filled. Furthermore, in certain locations, tuition is connected to a scholarship that is awarded upon enrollment. Agencies are encouraged to provide the college with new participants’ names if they wish to substitute attendees. This substitution is allowed up to 5 p.m. of week 1 of the on-line course.
